We designed these units for 1.8t, TDI, and turbo 8v,16v motors. The radiator is a 21x7x2.5″ Fatty radiator, with our standard dual pass design, it includes a factory threaded port for our VW style fan switch. The intercooler is a bar and plate 21x3x2.5″ core, a phenolic spacer separates the 2 cores, keeping the heat transfer to a minimum. The overall size of the system is 24 x 10.75x 2.5″ allowing you to mount it UNDER the core support on a mk1, giving you more room for log style manifolds, or just to clear some space in an already crowded bay.
Our calculations with our fan control system, shroud and fan assembly, this radiator and intercooler is capable of maintaining performance up to 275 HP (air flow on a mk1 with a full bumper can be restricted, providing adequate airflow is crucial for the radiator portion as it sits low in the ca) . The intercooler has 2″ inlets and outlets, coming out at a 45 degree angle to clear the headlights on a late westy car.
The radiator uses “feet” not pins, so you can mount it anywhere you are willing to bolt it down. We recommend a nutsert or rivnut installed into the core support base for mounting.
We are offering right *(passenger) side and left *(drivers) side coolant options, right hand would be favorable for cars with external waterpumps (mk3 and older 4cyl) while left hand will work better for those with internal waterpumps (mk4 and newer 4cyl ). *Assuming LHD vehicles.
