Here is your kit to make that a reality..  Grab an 07k donor motor from a mk5 or mk6, be sure to get your harnesses and ecu from the same car or the same engine code,  I personally prefer the CBTA from 09-12 as it is a mafless system making your intake plumbing cleaner, it also takes a turbo file very nicely..

The kit is designed for to use the mk4 4cyl transmissions.. 1.8t, 2.0, or TDI (I prefer the 1.8t with a TDI fifth gear).  The 02a transmissions from the mk3 chassis cars do not have the mounting bosses on them needed to mount this trans in a mk1 with this kit.  The 0A4 trans that came in the mk5 cars is slightly wider than the 02j I designed this kit for, the 04A will not fit with my mounts.

The motor installs best from the bottom up, but top down can work as well, you will need to trim or hammer a small piece of your inner fender on the drivers side (LHD) pictured below

Basic Kit includes

  • Powdercoated Motor and Transmission Mounts with Bushings and Hardware
  • Custom Axle Shafts and CV joints for 100mm Flanges on an 02j Transmission

Several items are Optional to make your install easier or more complete

  • Speedo cable to drive your mk1 speedometer off the 02j transmission
  • Shift box adapter plate to mount the 02j shift box into your mk1 (from underneath)
  • Cable clutch or Hydro Clutch control
  • Radiator cooling package – includes fans mounted on a shroud with relay and thermoswitch wired up
  • 100mm Flanges – if you have a 1.8t 02j trans you will need these to use our axle kit
  • 07k Spin on filter adapter – this is optional, but if you dont use it be prepared to “clearance” your front core support as needed for the stock filter housing gets extremely close and changing oil will be a hassle
  • 07k billet valve cover – this is pure shiny show points, the stock valve cover fits and clears, this does not have a baffle so you will need a baffled can – uses AN10 fittings
  • 07k ac compressor delete kit – does exactly what it sounds like, removes your ac compressor, since these compressors are not clutched you may have issues running it without lubrication, hence the delete kit
  • Tach adapter – if you want a working tach you will need an adapter to convert the signal from the coil to something your mk1 understands
  • Maf adapter, making your own fresh air intake, these are billet aluminum pieces to be welded onto your intake tube.

Mk1 Mk2 02A 02J Cable Clutch Conversion Kit


 

This kit uses an OE style Eurovan cable clutch actuator, the cable is designed specific for our needs, using an OEM mk1/2 clutch cable connection, metal adjuster sleeve and adjustment nut,  its longer length allows you to tuck the cable under the transmission and swing around the starter.

* You need to make sure your pedal cluster is in good shape, this cable system is going to pull harder than your old 020 cable did. Proper lubrication of the cable prior to install is KEY!!

Kit includes the needed tab for mk1 and mk2  installation, it simply bolts onto your transmission.

 

Mk1 Hydraulic Clutch Kit

Our kit comes with the backing plate, wilwood .70 master cylinder, and an OE 02A slave cylinder (will fit 02j transmissions as well, 02a uses a threaded fitting where as the 02j uses an oring fitting)    02m users will receive a threaded bleeder adapter which will allow you to use the OEM slave/release bearing.  (02m users please include a note on your order that this is for an 02m)

 

Quick overview of parts and install:

Mk1 Low Profile Radiator / Cooling Package

Mk1 Vr6? MK1 07k? 16v Carbs need fresh air?  What Radiator? Here is your solution, a 1.75" core, dual pass, 11" tall, 24" long radiator, it has mounting plates for you to bolt it down to the core support. This is the radiator I use for my vr6 swaps, 07k swaps, carbed motors, anything that needs the radiator to fit under the core support for the most room possible in the bay itself..

In the interest of providing quality cooling systems for customers without them needing to come back and buy a shroud and fan control after the rad has left my shop, I am providing these as a cooling package.  This includes

  • 50mm core radiator - (we also offer a 32mm core if you need an extra 3/4" of room - request them in the notes)
  • Coolant ports 1.25" on the Drivers side (USA)
  • VW thermoswitch in the base of the radiator
  • Fan Relay mounted and wired to fans - just connect fused power and ground
  • 2 cooling fans mounted on an aluminum shroud, bolted to the radiator, allows for disassembly for tight installs or paint/service.
  • Powdercoating is still an option, just purchase the LARGE size for the entire assembly,

100mm 02a 02j Axle Cups / Driveshaft Flanges

Swapping a 1.8t or vr6 02j transmission into your mk1, mk2, or mk3? You will want to ditch the 108mm flanges found on the 1.8t and vr6 transmissions in favor of these 100mm versions.  This will allow you to use the 85up stock 100mm axles for your swap.  These driveshaft flanges are used, they are inspected to make sure the splines are good.

Digital to Analog Tach Adapter Module with Cylinder Converter Combo

This is a “magic” box !! Its a dual purpose unit and has 2 modules in it, digital>analog + cylinder conversion. It’s used for many applications, putting a VR6/1.8t/TDI/2.0 into a mk1/2 and retaining your factory cluster.  (However if you wanted to drop an ls1 into your mk1 and drive the stock tach, this will do it for you)

This module will allow your factory cluster to read the correct rpm of the engine. It will save time on not having to do a dash swap or retrofitting the 6 cylinder cluster and allow you to maintain that stock sleeper look inside your mk1 or mk2.

Wiring is simple, connect the labeled wires to

  • Ground – Any clean grounding source
  • Power – 12v Switched Power, 5a fuse
  • Tach Input – This will be from your ECU or Coil
  • Tach Output – Connect this to your old coil wire, or directly to the back of your tach.
